Odyssey Just Cut $100 Off Its Best Zero-Torque Putter. That's Not a Normal Discount.

Odyssey cut $100 off the Ai-DUAL Square 2 Square #7, its award-winning 2026 zero-torque putter. In-season discounts like this from Callaway are not routine.

Current-year flatsticks from major OEMs do not go on sale in June. Especially not putters that just won category testing awards. Odyssey knocking $100 off the Ai-DUAL Square 2 Square #7, MyGolfSpy's Best Zero-Torque Putter of 2026, is a June markdown that reads more like a September clearance.

The Ai-DUAL S2S #7 dropping from $400 to $300 headlines MyGolfSpy's weekly deals roundup, alongside markdowns on the Jones Trouper bag, adidas Adipower '26, and Tommy Armour 845+ irons. Of those, only the Odyssey discount raises structural questions about a brand's inventory position.

Zero-torque is the category Odyssey helped define with the original Ai-ONE Square 2 Square launch in 2024, and it's the segment where LAB Golf built a nine-figure business by convincing golfers that face rotation was a solvable problem. The Ai-DUAL line was Odyssey's answer to LAB at a lower price point with distribution muscle LAB cannot match. Discounting the flagship of that line, in-season, suggests sell-through is not where Callaway modeled it. Zero-torque as a category is still growing, but Odyssey is now competing against LAB, PXG's Allan putters, L.A.B.-adjacent geometry from Bettinardi, and a growing shelf of options at Club Champion. The 2024 first-mover advantage has compressed.

Context matters here. Callaway's putter business has been the steadiest revenue line in the company for a decade, anchored by the White Hot insert and the Two Ball franchise that has been on tour bags since 2001. Odyssey does not have a habit of aggressive current-model discounting because it does not need to. When it happens, it is usually tied to a refresh cycle or a channel inventory problem. A June cut on an award-winning 2026 model is neither routine nor easily explained by a product refresh calendar that typically runs late summer.

The DORMIED Index has Odyssey down 18.2% month-over-month heading into June, sitting at #74 globally. That trend line predates this discount and reflects a broader softness in Odyssey's share of voice as LAB, Bettinardi, and Toulon have absorbed more of the premium putter conversation. The Ai-DUAL launch was supposed to be the answer. A price cut this early in the model year suggests the answer has not fully landed, at least not at $400. At $300, it becomes a different conversation. A zero-torque putter from the category's largest brand, with tour validation and Callaway's fitting network behind it, at a price point below most boutique competitors, is a genuinely aggressive market position. Whether Odyssey intended to arrive there in June or was pushed there by sell-through data is the question worth asking.

There is a parallel worth noting. When TaylorMade cut the Spider Tour aggressively in 2019 after the initial Spider X cycle underperformed against expectations, it worked. Volume came back. Tour count stabilized. The brand absorbed the margin hit in exchange for defending shelf presence against a rising Odyssey. Callaway is now on the other side of that same play, using price to defend the zero-torque category it helped legitimize against smaller specialists eating into premium volume.

For the golfer, the read is simple: this is the cheapest a flagship current-model zero-torque putter from a major OEM has been available at retail. For the industry, the read is more interesting. Odyssey rarely blinks on price. When it does, the reasons are worth watching. The next data point is whether the Ai-DUAL discount holds through summer or whether Callaway pulls it back once inventory clears. A permanent price adjustment would signal the $400 zero-torque ceiling has cracked. A short window would signal a one-time inventory correction. Either way, the category just got more competitive on price, and LAB is the brand that has to respond next.
