SuperStroke's latest marketing push arrives dressed as instruction: a putting-slump primer from Cameron McCormick, Jordan Spieth's longtime coach and an official brand ambassador, built around the idea that every golfer needs a stroke blueprint and a way to check it. Buried in the back half is the part that actually matters to anyone tracking this category. The Zenergy TLT Off Axis is a putter grip designed specifically for zero-torque and lie-angle balanced heads.
That is a grip built in response to a putter head. Which is not how this category has historically worked.
Why Did SuperStroke Build the Zenergy TLT Off Axis for Zero-Torque Putters?
The TLT presets a forward-leaning shaft position at address, which means lower loft at impact without the player having to forward press or load the head dynamically to get there. McCormick, who says he now has the grip on his own putter, frames it as removing a variable rather than adding one. Fair enough. The structural point is about the fitting bay. Grips are a consumable with a replacement cycle, and the sale almost always happens during a fitting conversation. A new head category resets that conversation from scratch. Whoever has a credible off-the-shelf answer when a fitter says "this head wants a different handle" gets the default recommendation, and defaults in the grip business are worth more than tour counts.
How Does Instruction Content Sell Putter Grips?
The McCormick piece is a good example of a tactic more brands should steal. It spends most of its length on genuinely useful stuff: distance from the ball, eye position, why tour players litter the practice green with mirrors and alignment aids, and the argument that Xander Schauffele and J.T. Poston putt so differently that neither is a template for anyone else. Then it lands on grips as the fitting variable. Poston uses his hands more, so a smaller diameter makes sense. A player trying to quiet the hands wants more girth to lock things down.
That is a diagnostic that terminates in a SKU, and it works because it is true. Compare it to the alternative SuperStroke has leaned on for a decade, which is being the most-used putter grip in professional golf. Tour count buys awareness. It does not tell a 12-handicap why he should spend forty dollars this month instead of next year.
What Is SuperStroke's Position in the Grips Category Now?
Fifteen years in, the harder fight is the one outside the putter bag. The bet worth watching is the TLT. If zero-torque holds as a permanent putter category rather than a three-season trend, SuperStroke will have been the first grip company to build for it, and that is a genuinely rare position for an accessories brand to occupy. If it fades, they burned a mold. Either way, a grip maker reacting to head design instead of hand size is the most interesting thing this company has done in a while.
