Lamkin has produced golf grips since 1925, making it one of the oldest and most established brands in the equipment industry. Founded in Chicago and now headquartered in San Diego, Lamkin built its reputation on durable rubber compounds and reliable performance across a wide range of weather conditions. The brand's grips have been used by countless tour players over the decades, and its Crossline model remains one of the most recognizable and widely used grips in golf. Lamkin competes in a market dominated by Golf Pride, which controls the majority of grip sales globally, but has maintained relevance through innovation and partnerships with OEMs and club builders. The brand has introduced modern grip technologies including the UTx, which features a tacky, soft feel, and the Sonar series, which uses variable surface patterns to improve traction. Lamkin grips are standard or optional on clubs from several major manufacturers and are widely available through retail and custom fitting channels. The brand's challenge is differentiating in a category where many golfers view grips as commodity products and where brand loyalty is often driven by familiarity rather than performance differences. Lamkin has worked to build awareness through tour presence and partnerships with club fitters, emphasizing the role of grips in overall club performance and feel. The brand also faces competition from newer entrants like SuperStroke and Winn, which have introduced alternative materials and designs that appeal to golfers seeking different textures or performance characteristics. Lamkin's longevity and reputation for quality give it credibility, but sustaining growth in the grip market requires continued innovation and effective marketing to golfers who may not think about grips until they need replacing.
