PXG's Zero Torque Push Continues, and the Category is Getting Crowded Fast

PXG launches the One & Done ZT putter, expanding its zero torque lineup into a category L.A.B. Golf defined and every major OEM now competes in.

Zero torque putters went from novelty to shelf staple in roughly 18 months, and PXG's new One & Done ZT is the latest sign that every major OEM now considers this a required entry, not a boutique play.

The One & Done ZT slots into PXG's growing ZT family with a high-MOI mallet build: hollow 303 stainless body, an onset hosel that positions the shaft axis near the CG for toe-up balance, and PXG's proprietary S COR polymer filling more than half the internal volume. The face is milled with a third-generation pyramid pattern and cut down to 0.055 inches thick, with the polymer providing structural support behind it. Adjustable sole weights round out the fitting story. Retail is $449.99, right or left handed.

The engineering choices are real. Ultra-thin faces backed by polymer inserts are a legitimate way to push discretionary mass to the perimeter, and PXG has been running this construction language across its lineup since the 0311 GEN2 irons in 2018. The onset hosel geometry is the more interesting piece: it is functionally similar to what L.A.B. has been building its brand around, and what Odyssey Square 2 Square and Bettinardi's Antidote have chased in the last year. The category has consolidated on the same physics claim, that reducing torque around the shaft axis produces a more repeatable stroke. Where brands differ now is aesthetics, feel, and price.

That is the harder problem for PXG. L.A.B. owns the category conversation, full stop. DIRECTED FORCE putters became the fastest-growing tour count in the zero torque space in 2024, and the brand's retail expansion through 2025 was as fast as any putter company has scaled in the last decade. Odyssey brought the concept mainstream with the Square 2 Square launch. PXG entering with a mallet at $449.99 puts the company in the middle of the pricing pack, below L.A.B.'s $449-to-$649 range but above most Odyssey ZT offerings. The engineering claim is credible. The brand permission to lead a category L.A.B. defined is the question.

PXG's putter business has always been a secondary story to its irons and drivers, and the DORMIED Index rank of 13 globally reflects a brand still working through the aftershocks of its 2023 retail pivot. Expanding the ZT family is a smart follow-the-category move rather than a category-defining one. It gives PXG fitters something to sell against L.A.B. inside a PXG fitting bay, which matters, because the alternative was watching customers walk out to buy a putter elsewhere. The One & Done ZT is a defensive product doing offensive work.

The next 18 months will thin this category out. When every OEM has a zero torque line, the differentiation collapses to fitting infrastructure, tour validation, and feel. PXG has the first, is building the second, and the third will be judged one putter at a time on retail floors. Whether the One & Done ZT converts is less about the engineering, which is sound, and more about whether PXG can convince a buyer already halfway to a L.A.B. fitting that the answer was in a PXG store all along.
