Hotels Don't Name Their Gym Equipment. A Dallas Ritz-Carlton Named Its Trackman Range.

A Ritz-Carlton Dallas golf package names its Trackman range beside its championship courses. What amenity status means for Trackman's business.

What Happened With Trackman?

The Ritz-Carlton Dallas, Las Colinas is marketing its golf packages by naming Trackman alongside its two championship courses, 400-acre property, Premier Golf Villas and the Chris Como Golf Academy. Naming a launch monitor brand in hotel amenity copy signals that Trackman has become a specification rather than a purchase decision, a position it must now defend against Toptracer Range.

Luxury hotels do not name the brand of their treadmills. They do not tell you who made the mattress, the espresso machine, or the towels. The exception in golf is the launch monitor, and The Ritz-Carlton Dallas, Las Colinas just put one in the same sentence as its two championship courses.

The resort's latest golf-getaway pitch runs through the familiar list: 400 acres, Premier Golf Villas overlooking the 18th green, minutes from DFW, private instruction at the Chris Como Golf Academy. Then it names the range. Not "a practice facility." Not "a technology-enabled range." A Trackman range, brand attached, sitting in a list of amenities a guest is being asked to pay resort rates for. That placement is worth more to Trackman than most of what the company will sell this quarter.

Why Does a Resort Name Trackman in Its Own Marketing?

Because the name does work that a generic description cannot. A golfer booking a Texas trip understands what Trackman means without a paragraph of explanation, and the understanding carries a price signal. That is the rare position an equipment brand reaches when it stops being a purchase decision and becomes a specification. Callaway has never managed it with a driver. Titleist has never managed it with a ball. The closest analog outside golf is Peloton in hotel fitness centers, and that lasted about as long as the exclusivity did.

The pairing with Chris Como is not incidental either. Como spent three years as Tiger Woods' swing consultant and built a public reputation on biomechanics and data literacy, which is to say he made the machine part of the teaching product rather than a diagnostic hidden in the back room. A resort selling instruction at that price point needs the guest to see the hardware. The hardware needs a name the guest already trusts.

How Does Trackman Range Compete With Toptracer?

This is where the placement matters commercially. Trackman Range is a licensed, recurring-revenue installation, not a one-time box sale, and it competes directly with Toptracer Range, which Topgolf Callaway has pushed into driving ranges at scale on volume economics. Toptracer wins bays. Trackman wins the ones where the operator wants the brand visible in the marketing copy. Those are different businesses even when the ball flight data is close enough that most guests could not tell you the difference.

Foresight's GCQuad is arguably the more entrenched product inside fitting bays and tour trucks, and almost nobody outside the industry knows it, because a fitting bay is a room the customer enters once and never photographs. A range is a place people stand for an hour and post about. Trackman built its consumer equity in the visible half of the practice facility, and that is why a hotel will name it and would never name a launch monitor bolted to a wall indoors.

What Does Amenity Status Cost Trackman Later?

The risk in becoming shorthand is that shorthand eventually gets cheaper. Inrange, Toptracer and Full Swing are all selling the same guest-facing promise at lower installation cost, and a resort's finance office does not experience brand equity the way its marketing department does. The moment a competing system delivers a comparable logo on the amenity page for meaningfully less, the specification stops being automatic. GPS yardage devices went through exactly that compression, and the survivors were the ones that owned something beyond the measurement.

A 22 percent month-over-month move up the DORMIED Index without a product launch behind it tells you where Trackman's attention is currently coming from: not from buyers, but from venues selling access. That is a healthy place to be and a difficult one to defend. Watch whether Trackman starts licensing that visibility formally, resort partnerships, co-branded academies, revenue share on instruction, or keeps accepting it as free advertising. Free is a great price until someone else offers to pay for the slot.

What Else Do Golfers Ask About Trackman?

What does The Ritz-Carlton Dallas, Las Colinas offer golfers?

A 400-acre property minutes from DFW Airport with two championship courses, Premier Golf Villas overlooking the 18th green, private instruction at the Chris Como Golf Academy and a Trackman-equipped driving range.

Why is it unusual for a resort to name Trackman in its marketing?

Hotels almost never name the brands behind their amenities. Naming Trackman works because golfers already understand what the name means and read it as a price signal, which is a position no driver or ball brand has achieved.

Who does Trackman Range compete with?

Primarily Toptracer Range, owned by Topgolf Callaway, plus Inrange and Full Swing. Toptracer has pushed into ranges on volume economics while Trackman tends to win installations where the operator wants the brand name visible in marketing.

Why is Foresight's GCQuad less visible to consumers than Trackman?

GCQuad lives mostly in fitting bays and tour trucks, rooms a customer enters once. Trackman built its consumer equity on the range, where golfers spend an hour and post about it.
