The Wilson Dynapower Won a Most Wanted Test and You Can Buy One Used for $78

Wilson's Staff Dynapower won the 2023 Most Wanted Fairway Wood test and now sells used for under $100. The performance-to-perception gap Wilson cannot close.

Fairway woods have quietly crossed into driver pricing territory. Titleist's GT3 fairway retails at $399. TaylorMade's Qi35 sits at $349. Callaway's Elyte lineup starts at $349 and climbs from there. A club category that used to be the value play against a premium driver is now priced like one.

That pricing shift is what makes MyGolfSpy's latest used-market pull worth reading closely. Their $150-and-under list from 2nd Swing includes five clubs that tested well in recent Most Wanted rounds, and the headline entry is a Wilson: the Staff Dynapower, which won the 2023 Most Wanted Fairway Wood test outright and is now available used between $78 and $138 depending on shaft and condition.

Winning Most Wanted is not a small thing. The test methodology weights ball speed, carry consistency, dispersion, and strokes gained against the field. The Dynapower finished second in accuracy and top 25 percent in distance across a full competitive lineup that included TaylorMade, Callaway, Titleist, PING, and Cobra. Forgiveness was average. Everything else was elite. Two and a half years later, the club is selling for less than a sleeve of premium balls and a lesson.

The rest of the list tracks a familiar pattern. Cobra's DS-Adapt Max and DS-Adapt X, both 2025 releases, are already available used in the $77 to $150 range, which says as much about Cobra's release cadence and retail depth as it does about consumer demand. TaylorMade's Stealth 2 3-wood, which finished fifth overall in the 2023 test and led the field in distance, is showing up around $150. The original Callaway Paradym, second-longest in the same test, is priced between $132 and $149, roughly 60 percent off its $349 launch price. Two model cycles is all it takes for a premium fairway wood to lose more than half its retail value on the secondary market, a depreciation curve that mirrors what happened to drivers once the annual release cadence became standard practice around 2015.

The interesting part of the Wilson entry is what it says about brand recognition versus product performance. Wilson does not have Titleist's tour presence or TaylorMade's ad budget. The Dynapower's Most Wanted win in 2023 was one of the more notable competitive results Wilson has posted in the club category in a decade, and it did not translate into meaningful market share movement. A Wilson global rank of 49 out of 175 in DORMIED's June tracking, down 18.5 percent month-over-month, reflects a brand that struggles to convert product wins into sustained voice. The Dynapower is a case study: objectively excellent by independent testing, largely absent from WITB conversation. That gap between performance and perception is exactly the reason a competition-winning fairway wood is available used for under $100.

For the informed buyer, that gap is the opportunity. The used fairway wood market rewards people who read testing data and ignore release calendars. Wilson has been in this exact position before. The Staff Model CB irons drew strong review coverage in 2021 and 2022 and moved almost no needle at retail. The D9 driver tested well against clubs costing twice as much. The pattern is consistent. Wilson builds competitive equipment and cannot manufacture the demand that would let them charge accordingly. The secondary market absorbs the difference.

Whether that pattern changes is the open question. Wilson's Times Square marketing push earlier this year signaled a company willing to spend on top-of-funnel awareness in ways it has not historically. Whether that reach converts into shelf velocity for the next Dynapower generation is the metric that matters. Until then, the value play remains: buy last cycle's Wilson at half the price of this cycle's Titleist, and let the launch monitor decide whether that math holds up.
