Nippon Shaft is releasing Luxury Black versions of its MODUS³ shaft lineup, starting with the TOUR105, TOUR120, and three wedge weights in April.
The move is pure market response. Black clubheads have dominated iron aesthetics for years now, and shaft makers have been slow to catch up. Nippon is finally matching the visual language that players want. The remaining MODUS³ models get the treatment this fall, with OEM custom availability following. It is a methodical rollout rather than a splashy launch.
Nippon sits at #107 on the DORMIED Index with a score of 1, though the brand showed a 24% month-over-month uptick in March. That modest momentum reflects a company that dominates in Asia but struggles for attention in Western markets crowded with graphite alternatives. The Luxury Black line will not change the competitive dynamics of steel versus graphite, but it removes one excuse for players who want consistency without the visual mismatch. Whether cosmetic updates translate to meaningful brand lift remains the question Nippon needs to answer.
